Anna Lappé

Anna Lappé is widely respected for her work on sustainability, food politics, globalization, and social change. Collaborating since 2002 with her mother, Frances Moore Lappé, through their Cambridge-based Small Planet Institute, they are also co-founders of the Small Planet Fund, which raises money for democratic social organizations worldwide.

Anna’s first book Hope’s Edge: The Next Diet for a Small Planet, co-written with her mother, chronicles courageous social movements around the world that address the root causes of hunger and poverty. Her second book, Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen, combines an exposé of industrial agriculture with chef Bryant Terry’s seasonal menus. She is also a contributing author to numerous books, including WorldChanging: A User’s Guide to the 21st Century and Feeding the Future: How the Battle Over Food Will Change Your Life.

From 2004 to 2006 Anna was a Food and Society Policy Fellow of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Serving as a consultant to foundations, media projects, and not-for-profit organizations, she is a former board member of the Community Food Security Coalition, the nation’s leading network for food justice and sustainable agriculture organizations and is currently an active board member of the Center for Media and Democracy.

A graduate of Brown University, she holds an M.A. in Economic and Political Development from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Anna has worked and lived in South Africa, England, and France, currently residing in Brooklyn, New York.
