The social and solidarity economy
Whilst enjoying a growing recognition in the socio-economic, political, institutional and academic worlds, the social and solidarity economy (SSE) is establishing itself, at a time of corporate reform and ecological transition, as the ”desirable norm for tomorrow’s economy”. This archipelago is characterized by its elusive nature, despite major efforts to define it. The SSE attracts both support and perplexity. Can the economy be “social and solidarity-based”? Isn’t that contradictory? What forms does it take? On what scale does it operate? How does it change? What challenges and pressures does it face?
In this book, students, professionals, volunteers, elected representatives and citizens are presented with an interdisciplinary synthesis of the main works on the SSE, as well as an overview of the issues at stake at the heart of contemporary change.
